7 Best Restaurants in Khao Lak: Local Thai, Seafood and More
Where to eat in Khao Lak: 7 local Thai, seafood and Peranakan picks with closing days, rough prices and how to reach each one.
On this page
Last updated November 2026: the best restaurants in Khao Lak sit inland and down side roads, not on the beach strip. Krachang Khao Lak, Krua Luang Ten and Roilay cover floating-platform seafood, fierce southern Thai and an easy Bang Niang dinner. Opening days change, so confirm each venue before you go.

How We Chose These Khao Lak Restaurants
Every pick is cooked to order and sits away from the laminated-menu strip. Details come from one published June 2026 review, not from a fresh visit by our team. Prices, hours and closing days are perishable, so check each venue's own page or Facebook before you travel.

7 Best Restaurants in Khao Lak, Grouped by Area
Bang Niang is the centre of gravity, and Phet Kasem Road (Highway 4) runs north to south through the middle. Beaches sit to the west, with hills and villages to the east. Use the list below by area, then check the closing day.

- Roilay, Bang Niang
- Roilay opened in late 2024 on Bang Niang Beach Road. Expect a big airy room, a two-piece band most nights and staff who switch into English.
- Order khua kling, Moo Hong or the crab and betel-leaf curry. Skip it if you want mild food, because the pork rib curry runs very hot.
- Bang Niang Isaan Laab, Phet Kasem Road
- Northeastern food in a southern town, set in thatched bamboo booths back from the road. There is no sign and no menu, so use the map pin.
- Ask out loud for catfish laab, som tam pla raa, grilled pork neck and sticky rice. Skip it if you only want coconut-rich southern curries.
- Krua Luang Ten, Khuekkhak
- This open-sided shed sits off Highway 4 next to an elephant sanctuary. Grab will not hold the pin, so tell the driver to stop at the sanctuary and walk the last few steps.
- It opens for lunch and early evening only. It is reported closed on the 10th, 20th and 30th of each month and takes cash only. There is no English menu, so use a translation app on the Thai whiteboard of specials.
- Juumpo, inside Hotel Gahn
- Juumpo cooks Baba-Peranakan food on Phet Kasem Road in Khuekkhak. Try the coconut-milk soup with prawns, stir-fried pineapple with shrimp and fried salted krill.
- It is open daily for lunch and dinner. Seating is beside a small pool and garden with no air-con, so a hot afternoon will feel warm.
- Ko Yot, Soi Bua Kaeo 1
- Ko Yot moved inland and now sits among rubber trees. Take the dirt track after the pet shop, near the police station and Khuk Khak temple, and watch for it on your left.
- Order the hand-minced khua kling and the crispy pork. It is family-run, has no air-con and charges roughly half what the beach strip does.
- Krachang Khao Lak, Thap Lamu pier
- Krachang is a wooden platform moored off Thap Lamu pier, about 15 minutes south of central Khao Lak. Most plates cost ฿200–500, with the bulk around ฿250.
- It is closed on Tuesdays. The Google Maps pin sits in the sea, which is correct, and Grab often fails here. Reach it over floating pontoons or by boat, and order from the Recommended page.
- Roe Dang, Lam Kaen
- Roe Dang is about 5 km south of Khao Lak proper, opposite the Lam Kaen subdistrict office. Everything is cooked to order from the day's catch, and the squid-ink stir-fry is the signature.
- Reported hours are 11am to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm, closed Wednesday and Thursday. Confirm them first. If it is shut, Mon Pochana down the road is reported to run 10:30 to 22:30.
Pick by Traveller Type

Couples can start with Juumpo for its garden seating, or book a Krachang table for a sea-platform dinner. Families should try Roilay for its roomy layout and English-speaking staff. A kids' menu was not confirmed anywhere, so ask before you sit. Budget eaters can head to Ko Yot, then the market below. For beach context before dinner, see the beaches along the coast.
Cheap Eats at Bang Niang Night Market

Bang Niang market runs Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, roughly 10am to 10pm, on Highway 4. Food clusters at the Highway 4 end, while clothes and souvenirs sit at the beach end. Try the kari pap curry puffs, then look for Mr. Khanom's Clay Pot B.B.Q. Its jar-roasted pork, Moo ob ong, sells by weight at around ฿900 a kilo, so order a small amount. Expect a long queue. Our Bang Niang night market guide covers the stalls. Other options are in the wider market roundup.
Most plates cost ฿200–500 at Krachang, so pair one seafood splurge with the cheap stalls at Bang Niang market.
How to Avoid Tourist-Trap Restaurants in Khao Lak

Run through this checklist before you sit down on the main strip.
- Fish on melting ice
- Seafood laid out under a strip light has often been sitting for hours. Better kitchens keep the catch cold and out of sight.
- Laminated photo menus
- Long menus of red, green and Penang curries with heart-shaped rice often point to one shared kitchen.
- Prawns sold by the kilo
- Oversized prawns priced by weight deserve a question about when they were landed. Ask the price before ordering.
- Empty kitchen, full ice tray
- Look for open woks, locals at the tables and a short Thai-language specials board instead.

Getting There and Booking Tips
Rural spots defeat Grab. Krachang's pin is in the sea, and Krua Luang Ten has no stable pin, so ask the driver for the elephant sanctuary. Download an offline map before you set out. Krua Luang Ten takes cash only, and card acceptance elsewhere is unconfirmed, so carry baht. Closing days matter: Krachang shuts Tuesdays, and Roe Dang is reported shut Wednesday and Thursday. Reservations were not confirmed for any venue, so message ahead in busy months. For rain and season timing, read our high and low season timing guide. Forecasts come from the Thai Meteorological Department. Local transport options are covered in our getting-around guide. For more to do around meals, see more Khao Lak planning ideas.
Krua Luang Ten is reported closed on the 10th, 20th and 30th of each month, so check the date and carry baht for its cash-only kitchen.
