Last updated November 2026. The best free things to do in Pattaya are the beachfront promenade, Jomtien Beach, sunset viewpoints, a Walking Street stroll and a few temples, all at ฿0 for entry. Free entry still leaves transport, drinks and tips, so each pick below carries a note on what it really costs. For paid options, start with our guide to 10 Best Things to Do in Pattaya: Areas, Plans, Costs.

Free Beaches and Seafront

Pattaya Beach and its promenade cost ฿0 to walk at any hour. Early morning is cooler, and evening brings the crowds. Jomtien Beach is a calmer stretch for sitting and swimming, and our Jomtien guide covers the area in detail. Sunset is the best free show, and the sunset spots guide lists where to watch it. The catch is food, drinks and rented chairs, which turn a ฿0 beach day into a paid one. Check swimming conditions and flags on the day, because rain-season seas can be rough.

Free Temples and Viewpoints

Many Thai temples let you walk in for ฿0, though a donation box is common. Cover shoulders and knees, and take off your shoes where signs ask. Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain) and the Big Buddha hill are the main free viewpoint stops. Confirm current access and any fee before you go, since this guide has no verified entry data for either. More options are listed in our Temples in Pattaya: Which to Visit, Costs & Etiquette guide. Not every large attraction is free. The Sanctuary of Truth sells tickets, so treat it as a paid stop.

Free Street Life and Markets

Walking Street costs ฿0 to stroll. It is also an adult nightlife strip, so families may prefer to visit early in the evening. Read the Walking Street guide before you go. Browsing the night market and the daytime local markets is also ฿0. The spending trap is the stall food and the drinks that tempt you along the way. Set a personal cap, such as ฿200 for the evening, and leave the card at the hotel.

Looks Free, but Isn't

Silver Lake and similar scenic stops may charge for tram rides, tours or parking. Verify current status and add-on prices on arrival. Shopping malls are a real free escape from midday heat, with air-conditioning at ฿0 for entry. Our Pattaya malls guide lists the main ones. Be wary of strangers offering a free ride, free tour or free ticket. Those offers usually end in a sales stop.

Free Day Routes by Area

A half-day route stays on Beach Road. Walk the promenade in the morning, rest in a mall at midday, then reach Walking Street by evening. A full day adds the hill side and Jomtien, so you cover three areas in one loop. Start at the temple and viewpoint stops, cross to Jomtien Beach, and finish at the seafront for sunset. Timings are estimates, so leave slack for heat and traffic. For rides between areas, see Getting Around Pattaya: Baht Buses, Grab, Taxis and Scooters and the tuk-tuk tips. Agree any fare before you board. Check Thai Meteorological Department forecasts, and see the best time to visit, before planning outdoor days.

Where to Spend a Little

Sponsored

A few paid upgrades are worth it if you have room in the budget. A boat trip to Koh Larn is one, and the Koh Larn guide explains the options. Departures use the Pattaya Pier (Bali Hai): Koh Larn Ferry & Tips. For quieter local spots, browse our guide to lesser-known places. Treat all of these as optional, and compare the price before you pay.

Tip

Use a personal cap such as ฿200 for the evening, then budget any Koh Larn boat trip as a separate line.

Mistakes to Avoid

Sponsored

Midday sun is the biggest drain, so save walking for early morning and evening. Do not accept unmetered rides without agreeing the price first. Dress for temples, not for the beach. Skip anything marketed as free that asks for a deposit, a card or a signature. Swim only where conditions look calm, and follow any posted flags. Your total can stay near ฿0 for entries if you plan walking routes and carry water.

Frequently Asked Questions
