Last updated November 2026: how to get to Pattaya depends more on your starting point than on the mode you pick. Most visitors choose between a bus, a minivan, a taxi and a slow train, and the right answer changes with your luggage and arrival hour. Fares below come from an older published guide, so treat them as indicative and confirm them before you travel.

Pick by traveler type, then read the section for your starting point. Every baht figure on this page is an indicative older figure, so check the current price with the operator.

  • Cheapest: the public air-conditioned bus from Bangkok, listed at about ฿113.
  • Easiest with bags: a taxi or private minivan that drops you at your hotel door.
  • Closest airport: U-Tapao, about 45 minutes east of the city.
  • Slowest and cheapest on paper: the local train, listed at about ฿31 for roughly 4 hours.
  • Most flexible: a car on Highway 3, if you accept the toll roads.

From Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airports

From Suvarnabhumi, an older guide says your options are a bus or a taxi. Check the airport ground transport page for current services. Taxis from the counter were listed at ฿1,100 or more. A hotel concierge in Bangkok can often negotiate a metered driver for about the same door-to-door fare. Don Mueang has no confirmed direct option here, so ask the airport desk about current coaches. Our Pattaya airport guide covers the transfers in more detail. Ask for the fare before you get in, and confirm whether tolls are included.

Tip

Counter taxis at Suvarnabhumi were listed at ฿1,100 or more, against about ฿113 for the Bangkok bus, so the bus suits only light bags.

From U-Tapao Airport

U-Tapao is the closest airport, about 45 minutes east of the city. Few flights land there, so check the U-Tapao airport site for current schedules. Your resort can arrange a private transfer. An older guide lists limousines at up to ฿1,500, so compare that with a Suvarnabhumi taxi before you book.

From Central Bangkok by Bus, Minivan or Taxi

Buses leave the Eastern Bus Terminal on Sukhumvit Road, at the Ekkamai BTS. An older guide lists departures every hour from 5am to 11pm, with an air-conditioned fare of about ฿113. Confirm the operator and timings on the day. The Northern Bus Terminal near Mo Chit also runs buses, and leaving from there can help you avoid Bangkok rush hour. Hotels and travel agencies in Bangkok and Pattaya sell private minivans, which cost a little less than a private taxi. Read our full Bangkok route guide for step-by-step detail. Good to know

Late arrivals at Suvarnabhumi should know Ekkamai buses run only from 5am to 11pm, so plan a taxi if you land after that.

By Train or Car: When It Makes Sense

The local train is slow. An older guide lists about 4 hours for roughly ฿31, with a morning departure from Bangkok. Its Hua Lamphong departure point is likely out of date, so check the State Railway of Thailand site for the current station and timetable. Skip the train if you are short on time or arriving late. By car, take Highway 3 east from Bangkok and budget for toll roads. Confirm that your hotel offers parking before you commit to driving.

A terminal is not your hotel, so plan the final leg. The bus station sits on North Pattaya Road. From there, a shared songthaew to your hotel was listed at about ฿40, or a bit more by taxi. Fares within town start at ฿10 on the red songthaews, and agree the price first. Jomtien is about a 15-minute ride south, and Naklua is the quieter northern end of the bay. Our local transport guide explains songthaew routes. Staying in the south? Browse Jomtien activities before you pick a drop-off.

Most delays come from small planning errors. Avoid these four.

  • Accepting an unmetered taxi quote without agreeing the total fare and tolls first.
  • Leaving Bangkok at rush hour when a Mo Chit departure could help.
  • Going to the wrong terminal, since Ekkamai and Mo Chit are different stations.
  • Landing late with no onward plan, because bus services may stop around 11pm.
