Last updated November 2026: the Lampang night market is a weekend-only pedestrian street, usually called Kad Kong Ta, beside the Wang River. Reported hours are roughly 5–10 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, so confirm locally before you build a trip around it. Pair this guide with our Lampang sightseeing guide to fill the rest of your stay.

Lampang Night Market: Which Market Is It?

Most visitors searching for the Lampang night market want Kad Kong Ta. It sits on the old market street, Talat Gao Thanon. Kad Kong Ta translates roughly as "the market by the pier" in northern Thai. Other names in circulation include Talat Gao, Talat Chin (the Chinese Market), Lampang Walking Street and Lampang Weekend Market. Sources we reviewed point to one weekend street under all of them. Look for it near Ratsada Pisek Bridge (also spelled Ratchadapisek), which crosses the Wang River. Spellings vary, so match the name by sight on a map. A separate listing, the Lampang Cultural Street Market (ถนนสายวัฒนธรรม), appears at Wang Nuea, Wiang Nuea, Mueang Lampang. We could not verify whether it is the same market or a different street. Treat it as a second option and ask your hotel which one is running on your date.

Opening Days and Hours to Confirm

Reported hours are 5–10 pm on Saturdays and Sundays only. One source says the street closes to vehicles around 4 PM, so stall holders may be setting up before 5 pm. Neither timing is official. Confirm with your hotel, the municipal office or the Tourism Authority of Thailand before you go. No weekday market was reported, so a Thursday arrival misses it entirely. Build your dates around a Saturday or Sunday evening if the market matters to you.

Tip

If the street closes to vehicles around 4 PM, a 5 pm arrival means walking the last stretch in.

From central Lampang you can reach the riverside by foot, songthaew or taxi. A tuk-tuk is another option, and horse carriages are a local feature of the city. Ask your driver for Kad Kong Ta or Talat Gao, and name Ratsada Pisek Bridge as a landmark. Expect the street itself to be closed to vehicles in the evening. Parking and ride-hail pickup rules near the closure are unconfirmed, so plan to walk the last stretch. Flying in for a weekend? Check flight schedules with Airports of Thailand. Our Lampang airport guide covers arrival logistics. For walkability, look for a stay in the old town or along the Wang River. That keeps you on foot and avoids a late-night ride back after the 10 pm close.

What to Eat and Drink at the Market

Stall lineups change week to week, so treat this as a menu of things to look for, not a fixed list. Northern dishes are the draw. First-timers should start with Kai Paam, Nam Ngiao and a fruit drink. Vegetarians and allergy sufferers should ask about ingredients at each stall. Nam Ngiao broths are often meat-based, and Ho Mok and Kai Paam contain egg. A 2019 blog reported Kai Paam at ฿10 and a pineapple smoothie at ฿20 at the Cultural Street Market. Treat those as dated context, not current prices.

  • Savory: Kanom Jeen Nam Ngiao (northern noodles in a tomato-pork style broth, ask to confirm), Nam Ngiao served from a clay pot, Ho Mok steamed in a leaf.
  • Snacks: Kai Paam (egg grilled on banana leaf, also spelled Khai Pam), Miang Kham, deep-fried mushrooms with sweet-spicy dip.
  • Sweet: Thong Muan Sod, a snack named by one forum source; check the stall for what is on offer.
  • Drinks: fresh fruit smoothies, honey-lime juice and karonda juice, a sour fruit drink reported at the Cultural Street Market.

Old-Town Heritage Buildings to Look For

Architecture is half the reason to come. Sources describe shophouses and merchant homes in Lanna, Burmese, Chinese and colonial styles on both sides of the walking zone. One account dates the market to the reign of King Rama V, about 1877. Another says it is over 100 years old. Both tie it to the teak trade, when merchants from Burma, China and Europe built homes and offices here. Use cautious wording if you quote dates, because we found no official heritage source. Arrive near 5 pm to photograph the facades before the crowds fill the street. Small cafés, pubs and restaurants occupy some of the old buildings, so you can sit down and look back at the street.

How Much to Budget and How Long to Stay

Street food here is low-cost compared with a sit-down meal. Current prices are not verified, so check the price at each stall before you order. Carry cash in small notes and coins, since many stalls are unlikely to handle large bills. Allow 1.5 to 2.5 hours as editorial guidance. That is enough to walk the street once, eat a few items and photograph the buildings. For a proper dinner before or after, see the 7 Best Restaurants in Lampang: Where to Eat (2026).

Good to know

Because the market runs only on weekend evenings, plan 1.5 to 2.5 hours for a Saturday or Sunday visit.

Who the Lampang Night Market Fits

The market is small and mostly local. Fit depends on what you want from an evening.

Sample Evening Plans

Pick the plan that matches your time. All timings are approximate and should be verified locally.

  • 1.5-hour plan: arrive near 5 pm, walk the street once, eat two items, and leave before the peak crowd.
  • 3-hour plan: arrive near 5 pm, browse crafts, eat a sit-down dinner in an old-building café, then take a second pass before 10 pm.
  • Full weekend: spend Saturday evening at the market. On Sunday, visit the Lampang Temples: Which to Visit and How to Plan by day, then return for a second evening.

Night Market vs Other Lampang Evenings

Weekday evenings need a different plan. Our Lampang nightlife guide covers bars and later options. A weekend market evening is calmer and more local than Chiang Mai's Sunday Walking Street. One source calls it more authentic and less commercial, with fewer fake-brand items. That is opinion, not a measured fact. If you are weighing a short stay, read Is Lampang Worth Visiting? Honest Verdict & Trip Length first. Rain and heat matter for outdoor stalls. Check the Thai Meteorological Department forecast, and see Lampang weather by season for timing.

Mistakes to Avoid

Sponsored

A few planning errors can cost you the whole experience.

  • Arriving on a weekday and finding no market.
  • Treating the 5–10 pm window as certain instead of confirming it.
  • Mixing up Kad Kong Ta with the Lampang Cultural Street Market.
  • Showing up with only large bills.
  • Eating a full dinner first and skipping the northern dishes.
  • Quoting 2019 prices as current.
