Last updated November 2026: a Koh Lanta cooking class is a hands-on, half-day session where you cook a curry, a second main dish and a dessert. The main decision is day or evening, and Cooking with Mon lists both formats on its own booking page. Classes suit first-timers, couples, families and solo travelers who want a meal they cooked themselves. Start with the wider Koh Lanta activity guide if you are still planning the week.

Day class or evening class: which suits you

Cooking with Mon lists a day class from 10:00 to 14:30 and an evening class from 16:30 to 21:00. Day sessions mean cooking through the hottest part of the day, then a late lunch. Evening sessions start cooler and double as dinner. Per the school, you cook and eat all day, so arrive hungry and skip a big breakfast. Plan on finishing stuffed, so book nothing demanding afterward. A class also works as a wet-weather plan, but confirm the kitchen is covered before you rely on it. Our guide to rainy-day things to do has other options. Check seasonal patterns on when to visit Koh Lanta, and look at the Thai Meteorological Department forecast close to your date.

What you cook and how the format works

Cooking with Mon says each class covers three dishes: a curry from scratch, an additional main and Mango Sticky Rice. Each person picks two dishes from the lists, so a couple can cook four between them. The school describes the format as hands-on, with tasting, chopping and pounding at your own station. A market visit is not mentioned on that page, so ask any school whether one is included. You also get a PDF recipe book to use at home. Verify the menu on the school's booking page before you choose.

  • First dish options: Red Curry, Green Curry, Penang Curry, Massaman Curry, Khao Soi
  • Second dish options: Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Tom Yum, Tom Ka, Stir fry Holy Basil, Stir fry Cashew Nut, Papaya salad
  • Dessert: Mango Sticky Rice

Prices, what's included and what to confirm

Sponsored

Cooking with Mon lists ฿1,750 per person for a cooking station. A child aged 8-12 cooking alongside a parent costs an extra ฿750, so one adult plus one child comes to ฿2,500. Children 13 and older book a regular class with their own station. Ages 0-7 can join a parent free, one child per adult. Included are the food you cook, fruit, water, tea, instant coffee and hotel pick-up. Freshly ground coffee, beer and soft drinks cost extra. Booking is online with a card and no extra charge. The instructor then confirms by WhatsApp the day before. Other listings quote different prices and times, so confirm every figure on the school's own page.

Who it suits and who should skip

Classes suit beginners, because you cook from scratch with an instructor beside you. Families can use the child options above, and the school lists vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian and gluten-free adaptations. Tell the school your diet in advance so it can buy the right groceries. Some travelers should ask questions first or pick another activity.

Good to know

Sessions run about 4.5 hours, the same length as the 10:00-14:30 day slot and the 16:30-21:00 evening slot.

  • Dislike long group sessions: a class runs about 4.5 hours, so ask about group size.
  • Need a very short activity: a shorter outing fits better.
  • Have strict allergens: ask whether the kitchen can guarantee separation before booking.

How to choose a Koh Lanta cooking school

Fill the table only with details you have checked on each school's official page. Cooking with Mon's row below reflects its own site at the time of writing. Add every other school you consider and mark anything unverified as "check on site".

Mistakes to avoid when booking

Sponsored

Do not trust snippets over the school's own page, since figures conflict between sources. Do not book an evening class and then plan a restaurant dinner. Skip it if you give no hotel name, because pick-up depends on it. Tell the school about allergies at booking, not at the stove. Pair the day class with a Koh Lanta Massage Guide: Types, Prices & Where to Go afterward. After an evening class, the night market is a light follow-on only if you still have room.
