Last updated November 2026: the Koh Samet night market is a small evening scene, not a Bangkok-style market. Look for stalls and shops around Na Dan, plus the beachfront walkways at Hat Sai Kaew and Ao Hin Khok. We could not verify its schedule, and most online "Koh Samet markets" are actually in Ban Phe on the mainland.

Where the Koh Samet Night Market Actually Is

Searches for this term mix up three different places. Island evening stalls sit around Na Dan and along the beachfront walkways at Hat Sai Kaew and Ao Hin Khok. Ban Phe markets sit on the mainland beside the ferry pier. Ko Kloi Floating Market is a lakeside market near Rayong, not on the island. We'd treat these as three separate decisions. For the beach itself, see Sai Kaew Beach and its neighbors.

What to Expect: Scale, Food and Souvenirs

Be realistic about scale. Expect street food, drinks and souvenir shops rather than a large market. We found no verified stall count, so we won't quote one. One listing calls the only on-island market it covers a small local food market. Plan your visit as a dinner stroll, not a destination. Sit-down seafood is covered in restaurants on Koh Samet.

Koh Samet Night Market Hours and Best Night to Go

Two snippets conflict. One points to a Thursday-only market. Another gives 5:00 to 11:00 PM nightly along the Sai Kaew Beach walking street, dated October 2025. We can't confirm either, so ask your accommodation on arrival. Aim to arrive near 5:00 PM if the nightly claim holds. Bars are the other option after dark, covered in Koh Samet Nightlife: Beach Bars, Fire Shows & Tips. Wet-season evenings may have fewer stalls, so see when to visit Koh Samet. Rain forecasts are published by the Thai Meteorological Department.

Good to know

Treat the 5:00 to 11:00 PM window as unconfirmed, and give the stale 10:30 pm island curfew the same doubt.

Getting Back After Dark

Last-boat timing decides whether you stay on the island or shop in Ban Phe. A 2017 blog reports a 10:30 pm island curfew. We treat that as stale until an official source confirms it. That account also puts the crossing from Nuan Thip Pier at around 20 minutes. Confirm current boat times in the ferry timetable guide. Mainland routes are in how to reach the island. Bangkok arrivals can start with Bangkok to Koh Samet: Bus, Van, Taxi and Ferry Compared. On the island, line up your ride home before dinner using Getting Around Koh Samet: Transport Options & Costs. Sleeping near Sai Kaew Beach keeps the walk back short.

Ban Phe Markets: Before or After the Ferry

Nearly all listed markets sit in Ban Phe, so you shop on either side of the boat. Hours and current status are unverified, so confirm before you go. Our pick before boarding is Ban Phe Fresh Market for a look at seafood and produce. For gifts, we'd choose the souvenir market. Pack light, since you carry everything onto the boat.

  • Ban Phe Fresh Market: listed as a daily seafood, dried goods and produce market. Best for a pre-ferry browse.
  • Jae Waen Talat 100 Sao: a covered seafood market listed with dried squid, whole fish and produce. Best for food-focused travelers.
  • Comprehensive Product Market (100 Pillars Market): listed as a daily market near the ferry pier. Best for everyday goods and produce.
  • Ban Phe Souvenir Market: listed as a souvenir market by the departure point. Best for last-minute gifts.

Ko Kloi Floating Market: Worth the Detour?

Ko Kloi is a lakeside floating market near Rayong with souvenir shops, dining and fish-feeding, per one listing. It is not on Koh Samet. Skip it if you have one evening on the island or a boat to catch. Consider it only with spare time on the mainland. Skip it too if you expect island nightlife.

Costs and Cash Tips

We have no verified prices for stall food or souvenirs. Check current figures with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the national park office, and carry small cash.

Night Market vs a Restaurant or Nightlife Evening

Decide by how long you want to stay out. Stalls suit a short walk and snacks. A seated dinner suits a longer evening. Bars suit late nights, but mind your ride home. Details on each option are in the linked guides above.

How Long to Give It

We'd budget 30 minutes for a look, 1.5 hours with dinner, and a half-evening only if your return ride is sorted.

Tip

Budget 1.5 hours for dinner, and remember the crossing from Nuan Thip Pier was put at around 20 minutes.

  • 30 minutes: walk the strip at Hat Sai Kaew and Grab a snack.
  • 1.5 hours: add a simple dinner and a slow loop past the stalls.
  • Half-evening: add drinks, and leave before your ride home gets hard to find.

Mistakes to Avoid

Sponsored

Four slips cost travelers an evening.

  • Assuming a big market: set expectations for a small scene.
  • Missing the return boat: confirm last departures first.
  • Skipping cash: carry small notes for stalls.
  • Visiting the wrong market: Ban Phe and Ko Kloi are not on the island.

Is It Worth an Evening?

Yes, as a casual dinner stroll. No, if you want a large Bangkok-style night market. For the wider trip, start with things to do on Koh Samet. Still deciding? Read whether the island is worth visiting. Day boat ideas appear in nearby islands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Koh Samet a party island?

Nightlife exists, mainly beach bars and the occasional full-moon party reported by one blogger. Scale looks modest, so check the latest in our nightlife guide. Treat a quiet evening stroll as the baseline.

Is Koh Samet worth visiting?

For beaches and a short getaway, usually yes, with rain being the main risk in the wet months. Expect a small evening scene rather than big-city markets.
