Shopping in Koh Samui: Markets, Malls & Tailors
Where to shop in Koh Samui: night markets, malls, tailors and souvenirs by area, with bargaining tips, timing and transport trade-offs.
On this page
Last updated November 2026: shopping in Koh Samui splits into night markets, air-conditioned malls, tailors and souvenir shops. Chaweng has the widest mix, Fisherman's Village in Bophut suits boutique browsing, and Lamai has a quieter strip. Match each format to your trip below, and confirm opening days before you go, because venues on this island change.

Quick answer: shopping in Koh Samui by area and type
Pick the format first and the area follows. Night markets and walking streets suit snacks, casual clothes and cheap gifts. Malls suit fixed prices, groceries and wet-weather days. Tailors suit anyone with a long enough stay for fittings. Boutiques and craft shops suit gifts with a local feel. For wider trip planning, start with our Koh Samui things to do guide.
- Chaweng: the broadest choice of markets, malls and main-road shops.
- Bophut (Fisherman's Village): boutiques and gift shops in a walkable setting.
- Lamai: a smaller strip for low-key browsing and everyday purchases.
Night markets and walking streets
Search listings for Chaweng name Central Festival Market, Chaweng Walking Street, Food Village Night Market and Si Khao Night Market. Treat all four as names to verify, since market sites move, close and rebrand. Our Koh Samui Night Markets: Which Is Open Tonight? (Days, Areas, Tips) guide covers the evening food side. For the street-by-street layout, see Koh Samui Walking Street: Which One, Which Night notes. Wider market coverage sits in our Koh Samui Markets: Night Markets, Walking Streets & Which Night to Go page. Do not assume every market runs nightly. Ask your hotel which days each one trades, and arrive after the heat drops.
Malls and lifestyle centers
Malls are where prices are fixed and air conditioning is reliable. Central Festival Samui in Chaweng is the main mall to check first. Haven Samui is promoted as a lifestyle and community mall on Chaweng Beach, with boutique shops and dining. Confirm current tenants and hours on each venue's own channels. Malls also work as your fallback when weather turns. Our rainy-day Koh Samui ideas list other indoor options.

Tailors and custom clothing
Custom suits and shirts are a major shopping vertical here. Sources list shops such as Art 'N' Design Samui, Ash Tailor Samui, Timmy's Masschneider Tailor and Boss Style Tailor. Those names come from listings, not from our visits, so verify each one before you go. Timing matters more than price. Order early in your stay so there is room for adjustments before you fly.

- Visit in the first days, not the last evening.
- Ask how many fittings are included and when each one happens.
- Request fabric name, fit details and delivery date in writing.
- Compare finished garments on display, not just fabric swatches.
- Ask what happens if the fit is wrong at the final fitting.
- Check whether delivery to your hotel is offered.
Souvenirs, gifts and specialty shops

Look for locally made crafts and coconut-based products, and ask each seller where an item was made. Many stalls also carry mass-produced imports, so handmade claims deserve a question. Buddha images and antiques face export controls, so ask the seller about paperwork before paying. Shells and coral are a particular risk. Wildlife and protected-area rules are overseen by the Department of National Parks, so check there before packing any. Skip these items if you cannot confirm their legal status. Many quality gifts, like packaged snacks or fabric goods, carry no such risk.
Shopping by area: Chaweng, Bophut, Lamai

Samui has no metro, so getting between areas means songthaew, taxi, motorbike or a hotel transfer. Fares are negotiated or vary by operator, so agree the price before you ride. Cluster your shopping in one area per outing to cut transfers.
| Area | Shopping character | Best for | Bargaining | Who may skip it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chaweng | Malls, main-road shops, markets, walking street | Variety, tailors, rainy-day mall visits | Markets yes, malls no | Anyone wanting a quiet visit |
| Bophut (Fisherman's Village) | Boutiques and gift shops | Gifts, relaxed browsing | Ask politely in small shops | Budget hunters |
| Lamai | Smaller strip of shops | Everyday items, low-key browsing | Common at stalls | Those wanting malls |

Prices, bargaining and payment
Haggling is normal at markets and not at malls, where prices are fixed. No sourced baht figures are available for this page, so check current prices on-site and at each venue.

Mistakes to avoid and who should skip shopping here
Ordering tailoring on day one of a short trip leaves no time for fittings. Shopping only in Chaweng misses the boutique side of Fisherman's Village, covered in our Bophut guide. Lamai has its own pace, outlined on the Lamai things to do page. For Chaweng, see Chaweng things to do. Paying tourist-strip prices is the other trap, so compare a few stalls first. Carrying too much cash is risky too, so keep a card for malls. If you dislike crowds and haggling, skip the markets and stick to malls and fixed-price shops.
