Last updated November 2026: there is no single Koh Samui night market, and the one open tonight depends on the weekday and where you are staying. Bophut, Chaweng, Lamai and Nathon each have their own evening option. This guide sorts them by day, area and what you want to eat or buy, as part of our wider Koh Samui planning guide.

Start from where you sleep. Most evenings, the closest market beats the "best" one once you count the ride home. Island schedules shift, so treat every day and hour in this guide as typical and confirm locally on the day.

  • Staying in Bophut: Fisherman's Village Walking Street, typically on Friday evenings.
  • Staying in Chaweng: Chaweng Walking Street, Chaweng Lake Night Market or the Central Festival night market.
  • Staying in Lamai: Lamai Night Market, typically on Sunday evenings, or Lamai Night Plaza.
  • Staying near Nathon or on the west coast: Nathon Night Market, which is typically open daily.

Sources disagree on several days and hours, so this table shows typical patterns only. Fisherman's Village is usually quoted as Friday, roughly 5pm to 11pm. Chaweng Walking Street is usually quoted as Thursday to Saturday, roughly 6pm to 11pm. A market near The Wharf Samui is quoted for Monday, Wednesday and Friday from roughly 4:30pm. Unverified: check locally before you go. For a broader list, see our full market list.

Good to know

Sunday is not the only evening for Lamai: one source lists Lamai Night Plaza as open daily from 10am to 10pm, though it may be a separate venue.

Fisherman's Village Walking Street in Bophut

Fisherman's Village Walking Street is typically a Friday event, with stalls reported from about 5pm to 11pm. It is the busiest and most tourist-oriented option, so arrive early while the street still has room. Stalls sell beachwear, scarves, jewelry, sandals and small souvenirs, and grills turn out skewers and seafood. Some goods are knock-offs, so buy with care. Visitors with a car can park at The Wharf Samui, but confirm that locally. Base yourself nearby with our Bophut area guide. Add a swim first at Bophut Beach, Koh Samui: Swimming, Sections & Where to Stay. This market suits first-timers who want souvenirs and a festive street.

Chaweng Markets: Walking Street, Chaweng Lake and Central Festival

Chaweng has three names that are easy to confuse. Chaweng Walking Street is typically Thursday to Saturday from about 6pm and leans toward swimwear, T-shirts, flip-flops and bags. Chaweng Lake Night Market is food-first. Expect grilled meats, pad Thai, mango sticky rice and fruit shakes. It is described as sitting across from Central Festival Samui, which has its own night market reported open daily from about 5pm, with nearly 100 stalls. Sources differ on whether these are separate or neighboring markets, so ask your hotel which one it means. Pairing Chaweng Lake with Central Festival makes an easy evening. More area ideas are in our Chaweng area guide.

Lamai Night Market and Lamai Night Plaza

Lamai Night Market is typically a Sunday-evening market, reported from about 5pm to 11pm. Pace is slower than in Bophut. Stalls sell bracelets, bags and crafts, and fruit vendors slice mango, pineapple, watermelon and dragon fruit. Cash is essential here, and bargaining is normal. Lamai Night Plaza is listed by one source as open daily from 10am to 10pm. It may be a different venue, so verify which one your driver means. Daytime options nearby are in our Lamai area guide. Lamai suits travelers who want a quieter, local feel.

Nathon Night Market on the Waterfront

Sponsored

Nathon Night Market is food-focused and the least touristy of the main options. Hours are reported as daily, starting around 4:30pm or noon depending on source, and closing about 10pm. Tuesday is described as the busiest day. Look for noodle soup, charcoal skewers, southern Thai curries, grilled seafood and sweet desserts. Walking from central Nathon is reported at 5 to 10 minutes. From the west coast, one source estimates about 30 minutes by scooter, car or songthaew. From the east coast it is a longer trip, so plan your return ride before you go.

Lesser-Known Options Worth Checking

Si Khao Night Market in Bang Rak is a smaller, community-style market reported open daily from about 5pm to 11pm. One source estimates about 4 minutes and 2 km by taxi or tuk-tuk from Bo Put. Maenam and Hua Thanon are also mentioned as local markets, but schedules are unverified here, so ask your hotel. For more offbeat ideas, browse lesser-known local spots.

How to Choose a Market and Get There

Match the market to your goal. Souvenirs and clothes point to Fisherman's Village or Chaweng Walking Street. Food and locals point to Nathon or Chaweng Lake. A quiet, local feel points to Lamai or Nathon. An easy, compact evening points to Central Festival. Budget about 1.5 to 2 hours per market. Songthaew frequency drops after dark, so verify the last ride locally and arrange a taxi back in advance. Distances below are approximate and tied to their start points.

Cash, Bargaining and Mistakes to Avoid

Sponsored

Bring cash. Some vendors may take cards, but many stalls prefer cash, and ATMs are reported nearby. Bargaining is normal for souvenirs and clothes, so keep it polite. Street food is the cheaper route compared with a sit-down meal, and our free evening ideas help a tight budget. For gifts beyond stalls, see Samui shopping tips. Pair a market with an island sunset or a massage beforehand. Most stalls are outdoors, so use our wet-weather plan if the forecast turns.

  • Arriving late at Fisherman's Village, after the crowds build.
  • Relying on cards at Lamai or Nathon.
  • Assuming one market runs every night.
  • Leaving the late ride home until the last minute.
  • Buying branded goods without checking authenticity.
