Last updated November 2026: how to get to Koh Kood comes down to one fact, because the island has no airport and no car ferry. Every visitor takes a passenger boat from Laem Sok pier in Trat province to Ao Salad Pier. Reach Laem Sok before the last afternoon departure, which sits around 16:00 in high season.

How to Get to Koh Kood: The Short Answer

Koh Kood is roughly 45 km off the mainland and reachable only by passenger ferry or speedboat. Bangkok to the island is a multi-leg trip of about 7 to 8 hours by road and boat, or 3 to 4 hours if you fly to Trat first. Fares below come from competitor timetables, so verify each one with the operator before you pay.

  • Fastest: fly Bangkok to Trat (about 1 hour), take a van to Laem Sok, then a boat of 45 to 90 minutes.
  • Cheapest: public bus to Trat, a ฿38 songthaew to the pier, then a ฿400 to ฿600 ferry ticket.
  • Simplest: a combined bus and boat ticket from the Khao San Road area, quoted between ฿850 and ฿1,100.
  • Most flexible: a night in Trat, then a morning boat with no deadline stress.

Bangkok to Koh Kood: Bus and Boat, Flight and Boat, or Private Transfer

For a deeper walkthrough, see our Bangkok to Koh Kood route guide. This page stays the overview. The simplest option is Boonsiri's bus and boat package from the Khao San Road area. It leaves at 05:30 and 08:00 in high season. One source quotes ฿850, another ฿1,000, and an aggregator about ฿1,100. Treat that as a range and check the current price. Self-assembling costs less but adds connections. Take a public bus or minibus from Ekkamai or Mo Chit to Trat. One timetable lists ฿316 to ฿700 and 5 to 8 hours. Another source gives ฿800 to ฿1,000, so verify before budgeting. Flying is fastest on paper. Bangkok Airways flies to Trat in about 1 hour, with fares quoted at ฿1,800 to ฿3,500. A shared minibus from Trat Airport to Laem Sok is quoted at ฿700, and private cars from ฿1,500. Check flight arrival times against boat departures. Drivers face about 5 to 5.5 hours on the road from Bangkok, and a private car from a Bangkok hotel is quoted from ฿4,400. One source says Don Mueang arrivals need to land before 05:00 for a same-day connection. For Suvarnabhumi, the figure is before 06:00. Confirm both before relying on them.

Laem Sok Pier: The Mainland Gateway

Laem Sok sits at the southern tip of a peninsula, about 20 minutes by road from Trat town. Trat Airport is about an hour away, and the Koh Chang piers about 45 minutes. Boats stop running mid-afternoon even in high season. From November to May, the last scheduled departures leave at 16:00 on Koh Kood Express and Seudamgo. Miss them and the only same-day option is a private speedboat, quoted at ฿15,000 to ฿20,000. A night in Trat is the cheap alternative. From Trat hotels, a shared songthaew to the pier costs ฿38 per person, paid to the driver. Parking at the boat companies' lots is ฿50 per day, and all four operators provide secure parking. The main concrete pier has waiting areas, toilets and simple restaurants. Speedboats sometimes use a separate Coral pier about 5 minutes away, so confirm which pier your ticket uses. If you want to sleep near the pier, see our notes on where to stay on the island and mainland.

Ferry and Speedboat Operators Compared

Four companies run regular boats from Laem Sok: Boonsiri, Seudamgo, Koh Kood Express and Koh Kood Princess. Our Koh Kood ferry guide goes deeper on timetables. High-season fares on one timetable site are mostly ฿600, with Koh Kood Princess listed at ฿400 on some sailings. Another page quotes around ฿350 for express boats and ฿500 for a catamaran, so the sources conflict. Check current fares on each operator's own site.

Good to know

Boonsiri's last high-season sailing leaves at 15:00, an hour ahead of the 16:00 cutoff for Koh Kood Express and Seudamgo.

  • Boonsiri: catamaran described as the most comfortable, with onboard wi-fi. Last high-season boat at 15:00 from Laem Sok.
  • Seudamgo: newest and fastest catamaran, about 45 minutes, carrying 84 passengers. Last boat at 16:00. An electric hydrofoil was announced for 2025-26, so verify before counting on it.
  • Koh Kood Express: ferries plus a speedboat. Last boat at 16:00.
  • Koh Kood Princess: cheapest tickets, slower crossings of roughly 1.5 hours.

Seasons, Weather and Sailing Changes

High season runs from about 1 October to mid-May. Low season runs from about 16 May to 15 October. In low season, speedboats stop and only larger passenger ferries run. One timetable lists six Laem Sok departures a day, against twelve in high season. Services can also pause for annual maintenance. For storm warnings, check the Thai Meteorological Department forecasts before a rainy-season crossing. Getting to Koh Kood from Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Cambodia

From Koh Chang, a high-season boat runs from 1 November to 30 April. Options are Boonsiri Ferry, Bangbao Boat and Kai Bae Hut speedboat. Fares in one timetable range from ฿700 on the wooden boat to ฿1,200 on the speedboat. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours, including a short stop at Koh Mak. From May to October, only Boonsiri is reported to run a daily inter-island boat, and weather can cancel it. Have a fallback: return to the mainland and use a different pier. From Koh Mak, the crossing takes about 30 minutes. Some mainland sailings stop at Koh Mak, which makes pairing both islands easy. Our Koh Kood island hopping ideas explain how to stitch them together. For Cambodia, one source says land borders between Cambodia and Thailand have been closed since early 2025. It also lists a Boonsiri service between Hat Lek and Koh Kood at ฿700 in high season. Verify border status and visa rules on official government sources before you plan this route.

Costs and Time: Budget, Mid-Range and Fastest

Use this ladder to trade money for hours. All figures are ranges from competitor sources, so verify them. Budget travelers can expect roughly ฿700 to ฿1,000 or more for bus plus songthaew plus ferry, depending on which bus fare is right. A package ticket costs between ฿850 and ฿1,100 and removes the connection risk. Flying costs ฿1,800 to ฿3,500 for the flight alone, plus ground and boat costs.

Booking Tips and When to Reserve

Sponsored

Advance booking is usually not needed outside the New Year and Songkran holidays, according to one timetable site. Another says combined Bangkok tickets sell out first on weekends and public holidays. Book early for those dates, and buy online or at your Trat hotel on arrival. Accommodation also fills up, with virtually all rooms reported full in the 2024-25 high season. Your boat ticket includes the pier-to-resort transfer on Koh Kood. The exception is the Koh Kood Express speedboat, which picks up from west-coast resort piers at and north of Bangbao Bay. That leaves you to plan the mainland leg yourself. Some luxury resorts run their own boats, so ask whether your room rate includes the transfer.

Mistakes That Cost You a Night (or a Private Boat)

Most failures come from timing. Arriving at Laem Sok after 16:00 forces a Trat night or a ฿15,000 to ฿20,000 speedboat. Assuming a car ferry exists is another error, since none runs. Booking a tight Bangkok connection on a late flight is also risky. Low-season weather can cancel crossings, so leave a buffer day before an international flight home. Carry cash for the songthaew, parking and snacks. Do not assume Trat bus stops sit near the pier. Laem Sok is about 20 minutes beyond Trat town. If you miss the last boat, follow this plan. First, ask the boat company whether it can rebook you on tomorrow's first sailing. Second, take the ฿38 songthaew back to Trat, or sleep near the pier. Third, rebook your Koh Kood resort so it knows you arrive the next day.

Tip

Its ฿38 fare, paid to the driver, also doubles as your fallback if the last boat leaves without you.

Arriving at Ao Salad Pier: What Happens Next

Boats from the mainland dock at Ao Salad Pier. Resort transfers meet arriving passengers there, so have your booking confirmation ready. Roads on the island are narrow, and transport once you land is a separate topic in our Getting Around Koh Kood: Scooters, Taxis and Costs guide. Soneva Kiri reportedly has a private airstrip on a nearby island, but that is a premium exception, so verify it with the resort. When you leave, plan to reach your onward flight with margin. Last departures from Koh Kood to Laem Sok in the high-season timetable leave around 14:30, so allow for the drive from Laem Sok to Trat Airport, about an hour. Before you go, check this list: passport, cash in baht, booking confirmation, and a pier arrival time well before the afternoon boats.
