Last updated November 2026: the Krabi temples worth your time are Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple), Wat Kaew Korawaram and Wat Bang Riang. With one morning, pick Wat Tham Suea if you can handle a climb, or Wat Kaew Korawaram if you want an easy stop. Our guide ranks each by effort and time, and it sits alongside the wider 10 Things to Do in Krabi: Islands, Temples, Local Picks plan.

Which Krabi temples are worth visiting

Three temples earn a place in a Krabi itinerary. Each suits a different kind of day, so choose by situation rather than trying to see all of them.

  • First-timer with one morning: Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple), near Krabi Town.
  • Easy stop with no climbing: Wat Kaew Korawaram, in Krabi Town.
  • Full-day temple outing: Wat Bang Riang, in Phang Nga Province.
  • Blessing or merit seekers: Wat Kaew Korawaram, because it is a working town temple you can reach in a short hop.
  • Rainy day: Wat Kaew Korawaram, since you can keep the visit short and flexible.

How to plan temple days: timing, transport and DIY or tour

Start early at Wat Tham Suea. Cave and hilltop temples give little shade, and climbing in midday heat is the quickest way to ruin a visit. For seasonal temperature and rainfall, check the Thai Meteorological Department forecast before committing to a climb. Our Best Time to Visit Krabi: Month-by-Month Weather guide covers the wider seasons.

Wat Kaew Korawaram fits the gaps. Pair it with a walk through Krabi Old Town: What to Do, Eat & Plan (Local Guide) on the same day. Wat Bang Riang is the opposite: it needs a full day because it lies in Phang Nga Province, outside Krabi. Do not squeeze it between beach stops.

DIY or tour? A tour bundles transport and can link several temples in one outing. You give up control over timing, which matters on a climb you want to finish before the heat. DIY suits Wat Kaew Korawaram and, with a taxi or songthaew, Wat Tham Suea. Our guide to getting around Krabi explains the options. We do not quote tour prices because none come from an official operator page.

Costs, hours and what to bring

We could not confirm entry fees or opening hours for any of these temples. Ask at your hotel or at the temple gate, and treat any figure on a booking page as unverified until then. Donation boxes are common at Thai temples, and giving is voluntary. If free entry matters to your budget, see our list of Free Things to Do in Krabi: What's Actually Free (and What Isn't).

Dress modestly. Cover your shoulders and knees, and carry a light scarf or shirt to put on at the gate. Remove your shoes before entering any hall that holds a Buddha image. Stay quiet around monks and do not touch Buddha images. Check signs before photographing inside halls, since some areas restrict it. For official etiquette guidance, consult the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Bring water, closed shoes with grip, and a hat for the climb at Wat Tham Suea.

Where to base yourself for temple days

Krabi Town is the better base for Wat Kaew Korawaram and for Wat Tham Suea, which sits near town. Ao Nang suits beach days, and a temple outing from there means a transfer each way. Since transfer times were not verified, check them on a map before booking. Our Best Beaches in Krabi: Where to Go and How to Get There page helps you decide where to stay. If you stay in Ao Nang, plan one temple day rather than several short trips.

Mistakes to avoid and who should skip which temple

Avoid these common errors when planning Krabi temples.

  • Climbing at midday. Go early or skip the summit.
  • Wearing beachwear. Shoulders and knees need covering.
  • Assuming all temples share the same hours. Confirm each one locally.
  • Assuming everything sits near Ao Nang. Wat Bang Riang is in Phang Nga Province.
  • Packing a temple into a thin schedule. Give Wat Bang Riang its own day.

Who should skip which temple

Skip the summit at Wat Tham Suea if you have small children, limited mobility or knee trouble. Visit Wat Kaew Korawaram instead. Skip Wat Bang Riang if your trip is short and beach-focused, because it costs a full day. On wet days, our guide to 7 Things to Do in Krabi When It Rains lists better options than a wet staircase.
