Krabi neighborhoods: pick your base for beach or town days

Railay draws the most searches and sits at the opposite end of the practical scale: no road reaches the limestone peninsula, so longtails from Ao Nang or Krabi Town are the only way in, and supplies carry a freight premium.

By contrast, Ao Nang is a boat-trip base more than a beach; shallow water makes swimming weak and the strip is commercial, yet longtails to Railay and the islands leave from the shore, all within a short walk. Two to four days there covers the water well.

Krabi Town, a provincial capital, adds a white hilltop temple, a riverfront promenade, and weekend walking street food, all walkable. It has no beach, so choose Ao Nang if sand is the point; two nights covers the center and the Tiger Cave climb.

Match the base to your beach days

For sand after the day boats leave, book two nights on Railay, then move to Ao Nang for island trips. Krabi Town suits markets and street food instead of swimming, with two nights enough for the center and the Tiger Cave climb. Klong Muang and Tubkaek sit in Nong Thale for calm; Klong Muang runs about 1.5 km of resorts and casual beach restaurants with no bar street, so plan on a scooter or car. Tubkaek is one beachfront road, not a town: sleep and swim at your resort and reach everything else by road or boat.
