Last updated November 2026: Railay bars sit in three pockets, not on one strip. Walking Street and Railay West lean reggae, Railay East runs from hammock chill to a loud party bar, and Tonsai is the climber end. Pick by mood in the table below, then read evening options on the peninsula for the wider picture.

Railay bars at a glance
Railay has no single nightlife strip. Bars cluster in three pockets: Walking Street with Railay West, northern Railay East, and Tonsai. Each pocket has its own mood. Expect an older-skewing, calmer crowd than Phuket or Ko Phi Phi, with party corners rather than a party town. Hours below come from a Travelfish listing, so confirm them locally. Choosing a base affects your walk home, so compare East, West and Tonsai bases first.

| Area | Vibe | Best for | Skip it if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walking Street / Railay West | Rasta colors, reggae, a few cocktail pubs | Casual drinks near Railay West | You want silence or no cannabis signage |
| Railay East: Tew Lay Bar | Hammocks, floor cushions, westerly outlook | A calm drink and coffee | You want a dance floor |
| Railay East: The Last Bar | Fire shows, Muay Thai ring, dance floor | A loud, late party | You want a quiet night |
| Railay East: Bang Bang Bar, Highland Bar and Coffee | Small climber hangouts | Chatting with resident climbers | You want a big venue |
| Tonsai jungle lane | Thatch-roofed reggae bars, loft seating | Long-running reggae scene | You dislike unlit paths |
| Phra Nang beach | Boat vendors, daytime | A sunset drink (not nightlife) | You can't tolerate monkeys near your bag |
Walking Street and Railay West bars
Walking Street is a brick-lined lane running inland from Railay West. Most freestanding bars here wear Rasta colors and play reggae. Skunk House is a large two-floor spot that often hosts a Thai singer-guitarist. Smaller bars have wooden counters and floor-cushion lounges. A few pubs play 1980s hits and electronic beats and focus on cocktails. Our Walking Street guide covers the lane in more detail. Skunk House is listed as open 10:00–24:00, which makes it a sensible first stop. Cannabis remains illegal in Thailand, so see the safety section before you linger near any signage.
Railay East bars: from chill to chaos
Railay East has the peninsula's largest number of restaurants and bars. Head north along the concrete footpath and the order matters. The Last Bar sits just east of Rapala Rockwood and is listed 08:00–02:00. Expect fire spinning, a Muay Thai ring, a billiards table and a dance floor with hip-hop and techno. Its crowd skews young backpacker, in a scene like a scaled-down Ko Phi Phi strip. Keep walking and you reach Tew Lay Bar at the far east end, listed 07:30–23:30. Tew Lay has hammocks and floor cushions on seaside decks. It serves coffee, cocktails, smoothies, beer and light bites. That is the best answer to the forum complaint of finding no calm place to sit.

- Bang Bang Bar: hole-in-the-wall on the inland footpath just west of Avatar Resort, listed 10:00–22:00.
- Highland Bar and Coffee: at Highland Rock Climbing, between Phra Nang Nai Cave and Phuthawan Resort. Hours unconfirmed.
- Both suit anyone who wants to talk with resident climbers over a drink.
Tonsai bars
Tonsai has fewer venues, but its reggae scene is the longest running on the peninsula. Along the jungle lane you will find Sabai Sabai and Sunset Pirate, both thatch-roofed, with loft seating and heavy Rasta decor. Chill Out Bar is listed as livelier, with fire spinning shows. Hours for all three are unconfirmed. Mama Chicken on the same trail is a food stop, listed 07:00–22:00 with dishes of ฿80 or less. Access adds effort. You reach Tonsai by a rocky cave scramble from Railay West, a jungle path from the highlands, or a longtail boat. Plan your walk home before your first drink.
Mama Chicken's dishes run ฿80 or less, yet the unverified lighting on Tonsai's jungle lane makes eating before dark the safer plan.
Sunset drinks and Phra Nang
Phra Nang is a daytime drinking spot, not a night one. Longtail boats moored on the beach sell cold beer, coconuts and grilled snacks. Write-ups describe them at midday, so check whether any remain in the evening. Day-trip boats crowd the sand from about 10:00 to 15:00. After 16:00 the beach usually empties outside high season. Rayavadee controls the beachfront, so there are no freestanding restaurants. Its two restaurants, The Grotto and The Terrace, run a minimum of ฿1,000 for two. Macaques roam the paved path and beach in the evening and snatch snacks and sunglasses. Keep bags closed. For viewpoints, see our sunset viewing spots. Eat before you drink at one of the dinner options before the bars.
Opening hours and what drinks cost
Hours in this table are as listed by Travelfish. Confirm locally, especially in the quiet season. No source we reviewed gives drink prices, so we won't quote any. Resort sea-view venues on Railay West carry a premium. Outside resorts, food on Railay East runs a little cheaper than on Railay West. Fried rice often costs ฿100 or more across the peninsula. Mom's Kitchen on Railay East lists simple dishes under ฿100. Check menu boards on arrival before you order a round.

| Venue | Listed hours | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Skunk House Bar | 10:00–24:00 | Walking Street |
| Tew Lay Bar | 07:30–23:30 | Far east end of Railay East |
| The Last Bar | 08:00–02:00 | Latest listed closing |
| Bang Bang Bar | 10:00–22:00 | Inland footpath |
| Kohinoor (restaurant, not a bar) | 11:00–23:00 | Walking Street |
| Highland Bar and Coffee, Chill Out Bar, Sabai Sabai, Sunset Pirate | Hours unconfirmed | Ask on site |
Getting around after dark and getting back
No roads or cars reach the peninsula, so every night ends on foot. Boats from Krabi Town reportedly cost ฿200 per foreigner, taking about 25 minutes. Write-ups say they leave when full, so we cannot confirm night departures. Ask your resort about the last return boat before you plan a late night. Our boat access to the peninsula page covers arrival. From the Railay East pier, some bases sit up to about 0.6 miles away. One write-up puts the footpath to Railay Great View Resort at a 15–20 minute walk back to the village. We could not verify lighting or surfaces, so carry a phone light for Tonsai's jungle lane and Railay East's footpath. Staying near your preferred bar pocket shortens the walk.
Even a 15–20 minute walk back to the village feels long after The Last Bar closes at 02:00 and the last boat may be gone.
Safety, legal and etiquette notes
Cannabis is still illegal in Thailand according to Travelfish. Check current Thai law yourself, because enforcement can arrive without warning. Avoid anything you are unsure about, including drinks sold with cannabis signage. Watch your drink and belongings, especially on Phra Nang. Do not swim or climb after drinking. Currents and sharp rocks make a night swim between beaches a poor idea. Ask your accommodation about local rules and conditions. In the quiet season, bar closures need on-site checking. Review low-season conditions and the Thai Meteorological Department forecast before you commit to an outdoor evening.
Mistakes to avoid
Most Railay bar plans go wrong in the same few ways. Fix them before you leave your room. Then browse more to do on the peninsula for daytime plans.
- Expecting one nightlife street. Walk between pockets instead of looking for a strip.
- Planning a late boat return without asking your resort.
- Leaving belongings on Phra Nang while monkeys are around.
- Treating hours as fixed. Confirm them locally.
- Picking a party bar when you want quiet. Choose Tew Lay Bar instead.
