Last updated November 2026. Every Koh Lipe ferry sails over open Andaman Sea water, and boats reach the island from several departure points. Pak Bara on the Thai mainland is the main route, Langkawi is the cross-border option, and Phuket and Krabi links depend on the season. Schedules and fares change often, so use this page to pick a route, then confirm times with the operator. For the wider picture, start with our full Koh Lipe transport overview.

Boats reach Koh Lipe from the Thai mainland, from Malaysia, and from the Andaman coast farther north. We have not verified durations, fares or operators for 2026, so the table says where to check instead of guessing.

  • Every duration and fare must come from a current operator timetable.
  • Schedules in low season are usually thinner than in high season.
  • Always keep a buffer day before an onward flight.

Pak Bara to Koh Lipe

Pak Bara, in Satun province, is the standard mainland departure point for Koh Lipe. Reach it by road from Hat Yai, Trang, Krabi or Phuket, then board the boat. Confirm the pier name, check-in cut-off and transfer pickup with your operator before you travel.

  • Hat Yai: fly in, or arrive by train, then continue by road to Pak Bara.
  • Trang: continue by road to Pak Bara.
  • Krabi and Phuket: allow a full travel day by road before the boat.
  • Check train options on the State Railway of Thailand site.

Langkawi to Koh Lipe Crossing

The Langkawi crossing links Malaysia with Thailand, so you pass through border formalities on both sides. Carry a passport valid for your whole trip and check current entry rules for your nationality. Ask your operator where the departure stamp and the Thai arrival stamp are processed, because procedures differ between routes.

Phuket, Krabi and Koh Ngai Connections

We could not verify a direct year-round boat from Phuket or Krabi to Koh Lipe. Plan on a land-plus-boat combination via Pak Bara, or an island-hopping chain in the dry season. Koh Ngai links also run only in season, so confirm each leg with operators.

Speedboat vs Slower Ferry

Speedboats cut crossing time, but small boats feel every wave. Slower ferries tend to handle luggage and rough water more comfortably. Weather decides both, so ask which vessel your ticket covers.

Services shrink or stop in the monsoon months. Read the Koh Lipe seasons guide before fixing dates. Watch sea and weather forecasts on the Thai Meteorological Department site.

Tickets and Booking

Ticket prices are not verified for 2026, so check the operator's own website for current baht fares. Ask whether return tickets, baggage and transfers are included. Tarutao National Marine Park may charge a fee, so check the national parks portal. Keep some cash for landing costs on arrival.

Arriving on Koh Lipe

Boats generally anchor off Pattaya Beach, and passengers go ashore by small boat or wade through shallow water. Pack valuables in a dry bag and keep luggage easy to lift. Pick your beach with our Koh Lipe accommodation guide. Then see getting around the island for the walk to your room.

Choose Your Route by Origin

Match your starting city to one of these combinations.

  • Bangkok: read the Bangkok to Koh Lipe route, then add a Hat Yai flight or a train.
  • Hat Yai: transfer by road to Pak Bara and board the boat.
  • Phuket or Krabi: take the land-plus-boat route via Pak Bara.
  • Langkawi: take the cross-border boat with your passport ready.
  • Flying: see the Koh Lipe airport page and confirm current commercial flights, or fly to Hat Yai via Airports of Thailand.

Mistakes to Avoid and Who Should Skip the Boat

Tight same-day connections are the biggest trap, because a missed last boat means a night on the mainland. Book a buffer night before any onward flight. If a boat is cancelled for weather or low numbers, ask for a rebooking or refund. Travelers prone to sea-sickness, or with fixed dates in rough-sea months, should consider a different island.
