Last updated November 2026: Koh Yao Noi beaches are natural, tide-driven and quiet rather than powdery white. Klong Jark and Pasai suit a swim, Tha Khao suits a walk with karst views, and Long Beach suits riders who can handle a dirt track. We compare them by tide, access and mood so you can match a beach to your day, and our wider Koh Yao Noi activities guide covers the rest of the island.

Koh Yao Noi beaches at a glance

Here is our quick read of the beaches that several guides name. Everything below is competitor-reported, so match each name to its map pin and check conditions on arrival. We'd treat the table as a planning aid, not a promise.

Understanding the tides: when each beach works

Tides shape every beach here. Sommertage reports that at low tide the water can retreat so far that swimming becomes impossible. Sand is coarse, and twigs and coral pieces wash up. Download a tide app for Phang Nga Bay or Phuket before you plan, and treat any rule below as approximate.

  • Check the day's tide table the evening before.
  • Plan swims for higher water and walks for lower water.
  • Keep a backup plan, such as a café stop, for the wrong tide.

East-coast beaches on the main road

Klong Jark and Pasai sit side by side in the southern part of the east coast. Sommertage says you can park a scooter on the road in front of either and pick a spot, with several restaurants and cafés nearby. Our pick for a swim is whichever stretch still holds water when you arrive. Tha Khao lies a little further north and sees fewer people. At low tide you can reportedly walk toward the small island in front, and the karst silhouettes on the horizon make it our favorite for an evening stroll. For island layout and arrival logistics, see our guide to getting to Koh Yao Noi.

Tip

A full loop of the island takes about 45 minutes without stops, so Klong Jark, Pasai and Tha Khao make an easy scooter day.

Northern and boat-only beaches

North of Tha Khao the main road turns inland. Reaching the bays means dusty, hilly tracks that Sommertage says suit reasonably experienced riders. Long Beach and Little Long are the best-known targets, and Adventures of Jellie reports they were nearly empty. Names cause confusion. Sommertage notes that Yao Beach, Yaow Beach and Long Beach can all point to the same northern beach, while some maps label Klong Jark as Long Beach. We'd trust the map pin over the name. Mankei Bay needs more caution. One competitor gave up after 20 minutes on dirt and narrow concrete paths and reports a resort at the end, so treat it as boat-only unless you confirm otherwise. Kian Bay is also described as boat-only. A longtail charter is the safer way to reach both.

Island-hop beaches: Ko Nok and Koh Yao Yai

Sources disagree on Ko Nok. One says you can walk a sandbar at low tide from beside a restaurant on the main island. Another says to rent a kayak at Pasai, paddle roughly an hour and climb a rope section of about 15 minutes. Conditions vary, so ask locally before you commit. For white sand, Sommertage rates Laem Haad on Koh Yao Yai as the island's best, near the north pier. It also reports several piles of garbage behind the beach and mixed opinions on the best tide. The crossing from Manoh Pier takes about 10 minutes by longtail. Our Day Trips From Koh Yao Noi: Hong Islands, Phang Nga Bay & More page covers the wider options, and the same crossing is covered in the Koh Yao Noi ferry guide.

Good to know

Crossing from Manoh Pier to Koh Yao Yai takes about 10 minutes by longtail. Longtail charters are also the safer way to reach Mankei and Kian.

How to reach the beaches: scooter, bicycle or longtail

Sommertage says a ride around the whole island takes about 45 minutes without stops. Walking east to west takes most of an hour, according to Adventures of Jellie. That makes the east-coast beaches easy by scooter and doable by bicycle. Rental and boat prices differ widely between sources, so we're not quoting any here. Our Koh Yao Noi transport guide covers rentals and current costs.

  • Skip the Mankei track unless you ride confidently on dirt.

Where to watch sunset when the beach is mud

The west coast has piers rather than beaches. Sommertage describes Thatondo Pier, a little north of the main town, with a footbridge past some bars and few people around. Eat afterward at one of the places in our Koh Yao Noi restaurant guide. We'd also check the Koh Yao Noi Night Market: What Exists and How to Go for a cheaper post-beach meal.

Best season, safety and etiquette

Competitors put the dry season at November to April, with some narrowing to November through March. Check the Thai Meteorological Department forecast before booking. Low season runs May to October, with rougher seas, lower snorkeling visibility and some businesses closed. Our Best Time to Visit Koh Yao Noi: Month-by-Month Guide page goes deeper. We found no source confirming lifeguards, so assume none and swim cautiously. Bring sun protection, because shade is limited at low tide. Most residents are Muslim, so dress modestly away from your hotel, expect the call to prayer, and Don't assume every restaurant serves alcohol.

Which beach is right for you

Match the beach to the traveler. Families and swimmers should aim for Klong Jark or Pasai at higher water. Couples who like quiet and views will enjoy Tha Khao in the evening. Solitude seekers can try Long Beach if they can handle the track. If white sand matters most, plan the Koh Yao Yai trip. Still deciding? Read whether Koh Yao Noi is worth visiting.

  • Mistake: arriving at low tide expecting to swim.
  • Mistake: riding a scooter on a dirt track without experience.
  • Mistake: trusting a beach name without checking the map pin.
  • Mistake: skipping sun protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best beach on Koh Yao Noi?

Is Koh Yao Noi better than Koh Yao Yai?

For beaches, one competitor prefers Koh Yao Yai, especially Laem Haad. Koh Yao Noi has more restaurants and accommodation. Many travelers stay on Noi and make a day trip to Yai.
